The Church for Today is dedicated to teaching and expressing a positive and practical spiritual approach to life. Our beliefs are in harmony with the basic tenets of the world's great religions that teach love. All of our programs are designed to help each person expand their awareness of God's Presence and Power for good in their lives. This is a place to connect with God and to discover the wonder of your own being. As a living and supportive spiritual community we encourage each person to pray effectively, think clearly, feel openly and love deeply.
We base our teachings on the principles of Religious Science, using The Science of Mind written by Dr. Ernest Holmes as one of our foundational texts, as well as the Bible and other sacred writings. Because of a similarity in names, Religious Science/Science of Mind have, on occasion, been confused with other organizations. However, there is no connection between Religious Science or the Science of Mind and Scientology or Christian Science.
There are people from many different faiths who worship here seeking a personal experience of their Divine nature without feeling separated by religious dogma. Our purpose is to unite, not to divide.
We teach from the teachings of the historical Jesus and honor the wisdom in them. We believe that a personal relationship with Jesus Christ can be a stepping stone to greater enlightenment but it is not the only stepping stone. We believe that all masters and enlightened beings have one purpose and that purpose is to bring us into a greater realization of our own divinity, of our own authority and our own Oneness with God. We are led and taught by great ones, but our ultimate goal is unity with God.
WE BELIEVE:
- There is One Life, One Power in the universe, and that Life-that Power is God.
- God speaks through many teachers, East and West, ancient and contemporary. For many, the primary teacher is Jesus the Christ. Jesus is the great example.
- The primary teaching is love. To love God, to love each other, and to love ourselves.
- The Kingdom of Heaven is within and our purpose is to realize this kingdom on earth through removing the blocks to our awareness and experience of Love's Presence.
- Each person is a unique expression of God and as such is a co-creator with God.
- What we give, whether it be love, talent, time or dollars, multiplies and circulates back to us. "As you sow, so shall you reap."
- Service is the highest activity to which one can aspire.
- In freedom for each person in matters of belief. God is in all creation. We hold everyone and everything sacred.
